Here's how I plan the Lewis family meal schedule.
I have made a list of 77 meals I know how to make and I take 14 of those meals and plan my groceries for a 2 week time frame. I try to keep meals that use the same ingredients in the same section of time. For example I plan chicken spaghetti and "regular" spaghetti in the same 2 week span so I can buy the large packs of noodles at Sam's . The 2 meals are different enough not to taste alike so it's ok.
I keep breakfasts and lunches limited to the same few meals each always so it's easy to plan also. For example, lunches are always leftovers, egg salad sandwiches, pb&j, lunchmeat sandwiches (hubby's favorite), baked potatoes, omelets or grilled cheese. Breakfasts are limited to scrambled or fried eggs, pancakes (when daddy is cooking!) , fruit salads, oatmeal, granola or rice with brown sugar topping. Sometimes a yogurt.
We have set times for eating and I find this helps eliminate mindless snacking. We do have a few snacks but those are planned too. Popcorn for movie night is a must! And I love to bake so I throw that in a few times a week too :)
Since we live off grid I have to watch how I by meat since I have to plan when to buy blocks of ice and I can't fit 2 weeks worth of meat in the coolers sometimes. I use 1 cooler for condiments , lettuce, milk, and cheese etc and the other one for meats.
How do I organize it all? I keep a red notebook n my purse at all times! My list of meals is written in it. I wrote down every item I would need to buy for all the meals and I put an S or an W in front of it , signifying if I should buy it at Sam's or Walmart. Cereal is cheaper at Wally World , did you know that?
Then I have a page where I list everything I need to buy thru mail order and where I get that from. Like coconut oil.
I make a lot of my own products, like bread , instead of buying it. So I need to keep a running list of baking ingredients too.
What do you like to eat? How do you organize things? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants? Comment and let me know!
