The Break Down

So many people have asked about my off grid lifestyle and what we do for what i.e cooking , heat etc  and why we have not chosen some form of power  other than an occasional generator use- which sadly is no more- that I thought I'd explain a bit.

We truly believe hard times are coming even more than they are here already. Thus we prepare for a future where the "necessities" are not available. Since there are thoughts that Obama  will turn off the electric grid if he deems it necessary and even if it is still on the price will be exorbitant you need to have some sort of back up plan. .And most back up plans  cost a pretty penny! Think about it- if you can't afford solar or wind power now, how will you in a dire emergency?!!

For us the break down goes like this

$15,000 to get the electric turned on
$65,000 to get a phone put in
$40-60, 000 to install a solar system that truly runs anything
$10,000 just to start to try wind power.

Now those prices- except the solar- are because I live out in the boondocks so to speak but many others have faced these stiff prices too.  Solar takes well over 20 years before you earn your money back and that is after you have had to replace batteries and such many times!!!

Cooking doesn't have to be just on propane or charcoal We do have a grill but we also have a wood burning stove.. You can dig a fire pit too. Try a pizza oven from a trashcan. Try a brick oven. Or make a rocket stove! Here's another one.

Heat can come from a woodstove like mine- it is all we need-or even from a propane heater made to go inside a home. We plan to use these in our barns. Ok I only have 1 barn so far but......

The reason I keep drilling all this into you is that we are headed for an economic collapse. Sorry if that is too political for you. But if we prepare and plan ahead we will come out on top. .And even tho I joke about being a prepper I really am a homesteader because I know that preppers will run out of supplies in time. Homesteaders will keep regenerating food and more!

So for all of you who keep saying I will wait til I can afford solar or wind  you need to rethink that! You may not have time! Or what if you never have the money and those tough times come and power is out of reach for you? How will you survive?

What about when the dollar totally collapses? We are on the verge of that happening right now. And we will have rioting and such just like they are in Greece. Is that when you will start preparing? When your dollar is worth nothing?
