The temps here are horrible!! We have been going to the park most of the afternoons and have even been cooking supper there on a portable propane grill. Real food in the park I have been calling it! But praise God! Through the generous gift of a friend we will be able to run the ac at night! She kindly paid to fix my generator !! Diesel is expensive so we will ration it out thru the week. (Sorry if this dispels any thoughts anyone has on off grid living. )
40 more days and the temps should be pleasant!! I can't wait!
Beans are making up a good bit of our meals lately. Inexpensive and healthful these should be a staple in every Proverbs 31 woman's pantry!
I have been adding leftover veggies and cheaper cuts of meat to the pot and every one is different!
We are getting more than enough eggs every day so you can guess what breakfast is every morning. Though we have varied it a bit with oatmeal topped with maple syrup and pecans.
Since I have been sitting in the shade at the park so much I have done a lot of reading. Last week I finished Radical Womanhood: Feminine Faith in a Feminist World , On the Other Side of the Garden: Biblical Womanhood and Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother. . All great reads!
We have found even more volunteer tomato plants, bringing our total to 7. We got 55 tomatoes off of just 2 plants!! I plan to make homemade tomato soup as well as do salads galore.
We have found a second volunteer watermelon plant too. Exciting!
It seems I did lose my peppers but I still have cantaloupes and watermelons plus all those tomatoes.
Our propane grill seems to be on it's way out so we are planning on buying another once money is better. If all else fails we can use our fire pit in a hole in the ground! I am also trying my hand at building a solar oven from my crockpot. Details later lol.
We- meaning my husband- will be turning my kitchen aid mixer into a hand cranked mixer using this tip I found and pinned HERE
So now I have 2 handcranked appliances - my grain mill and my mixer. :)
What have you been reading? How are you handling the heat? What grain mill do you use? Comment and let me know!
Oh and quick question- would anyone be interested in magnets, totebags or coffeemugs- maybe a potholder- with A Godly Homemaker printed on them? I am thinking of starting a CafePress store but if there is no interest I won't bother :) So let me know!
