I live off grid so I can experience "real life" , not a life dominated by screens and shopping.
I live off grid so I - and my children- can feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
I live off  grid so my family can be self-sustainable so we can take care of ourselves.
I live off grid because I feel the future is uncertain and I want us to able to practice, so to speak, "going without" and learning how to adapt while it's ok to "fail" and learn more.

That all said-
I do enjoy a dvd often.
I have learned that I like comfort . When it got way too hot we bought a generator and ac unit. Yes it's too bad that it broke and we are unable to use it but .... our comfort level spoke loud and clear and it said "cool me" !
I have often escaped the heat by going to a friend's house or a local fast food eatery so I guess I haven't learned to adapt well.
Our garden failed in some aspects and thrived in others. We  were surprised to find tomato plants growing where we had not planted them. Funny thing is that they thrived and the ones we planted died. hmmmm.
I learned melons can  make a comeback from the extreme heat but stevia cannot.Peppers are still a wait and see project.

My compost pile that I started but gave up using to make a new one has yielded WATERMELONS!!!!!
I have tomato plants popping  up everywhere yielding lotsa  fruit yet I never planted them.!!!

I have learned that oil lamps and cats don't mix. Yet I love oil lamps !

I have learned that my cell phone is considered a lifeline lol

I learned that propane cooks hotter than electric.

I learned that kids don't really need all those toys.
I learned that I don't really need all that fiestaware. So I sold it!

I miss ice for my tea.

I learned I can do anything in a skirt. Tried jeans for awhile for certain chores but went back to skirts.

I must be a rooster whisperer. None else can get anywhere near him without getting lunged at. I walk past him and he never even looks at me.

I learned that most people don't really "get it" as to why I live the way I do. Nor do they think I do it right.  Thy have even called me names!   Nor will they ever try it. But I am preparing for my future and that is more than a lot of people can say! And I am learning to live in my present. Which most people can't say either.

And that is why I live off grid. (and more dribble)

Read what fuels my passion!
