1Cr 7:4 | The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Notice the couple is married. Notice that while the wife has not power of her own body NEITHER DOES THE HUSBAND. POWER- it's a verb that means 1) to have power or authority, use power a) to be master of any one, exercise authority over one b) to be master of the body 1) to have full and entire authority over the body 2) to hold the body subject to one's will c) to be brought under the power of anyone the number b1 meaning is what actually applies to this verse, according to Strong's 1) to have full and entire authority over the body What does that mean? Who , besides the person himself, has authority over their body? The spouse. What does authority mean? Does it mean the spouse can demand anything they want ? Knowing where proper authority lies is of paramount importance in the avoidance of abuse. This statement is made HERE on a site entitled Understanding Biblical Authority. The authority mentioned in this verse DOES NOT MEAN that the spouse can demand anything they want from the other souse. (the intent used by feminists to state that husbands can abuse wives and demand sex no matter what) What it does mean is that no one but the spouse has the right or power to "use" that spouse's body! It preserves holy matrimony. It says we are not to have affairs with anyone. The only person that the spouse can have relations with is the other spouse! I hope this clears things up!! |
